I have some alerts set up on Ebay to let me know when anything is posted with some of my surnames and even some places.  One of the alerts I get is anything Siegfried related.  About a month ago I was alerted to a picture of a woman and on the back of the picture is written Emma Siegfried {I'm pretty sure it says Mrs Emma Siegfried} and of course I bought the photo .   The other thing I noticed on the back of the photo was the photographer's name and that it says Reading PA.   {I know some of the Siegfried's come from that area}. I looked in my Legacy database to see if I have an Emma Siegfried . . . and I do!  One is my great aunt born in 1926 {the photo is not of her} and the other is Emma Lydia Shellhammer Siegfried born in 1862 {I don't think it is of her but it could be}. You never know what you are going to find when "googleing" for something or someone.   Image from clipartbest.com According to Urban Dictionary the definition of  googleing is "the act of looking something up on an internet search engine to include any people or background search to find out anything significant not previously known." A few days ago I was searching for some information on Peter C. Hunter who is my 4th great-grandfather on my mom's dad's side.  I found a few links from a Google search that looked promising; one being a link to a Google book.  The book was  Commemorative biographical record of northeastern Pennsylvania : including the counties of Susquehanna, Wayne, Pike and Monroe, containing biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens, and many of the early settled families .  So far the research I have done has not shown any Siegfried's in any of those counties but I figured it was worth a look. The weekend seems to mess up my posting!  I will be playing catch-up for the next few days. The image below shows the relationship between myself and my grandmother.  {look close...you can see how OLD I am.} The first relationship shows her as my grandmother...nothing new there.  {This is my mom's mom.} If you look close there are actually two relationships!  What?!  It says she is also my 2nd cousin twice removed.  How can that be??  The right side of the screen below is my information going through my dad back to my 3rd great-grandfather.  The information on the right is my grandmother {my moms mom} and that also goes back to the same 3rd great-grandfather.  So my grandmother is my grandmother and my 2nd cousin twice removed.  What?  Unbelievable!!  If you notice the last name is the same but spelled differently.  There is a story that my 2nd great-grandfather and his brother got in a fight so Alon...

Yesterday for the LVUG monthly hangout they discussed taking a year and doing research and visiting the places your ancestors were.  The origianl idea came from Jennifer Shoer at The Scrappy Genealogist .  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend due to an unexpected visit from my aunt. (We always have such a great time when we are together.) Luckily for me the majority of my family and my husband's family came from the area where I currently live.  Therefore, a lot of my research is focused on this area and the surrounding areas. Month 1: I would first spend some time with my database cleaning up stuff, checking to see where I need to go, and making sure my to do list is in order. Month 2 : I would spend my time between the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society (my local historical society in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania) and the Northeast Pennsylvania Genealogical Society that is about 45 minuets away.  I am also researching for a marriage in Wyomi...

William Andrew Siegfreid is my 2nd great grandfather.  He is the son of William Henry and Eve Greenzwig Siegfried. William was born 21 October 1857 in Millport, Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon county, Pennsylvania and he died on 16 February 1927 in Sugarloaf Township, Luzerne county, Pennsylvania. I'm finally getting around to doing this. On Saturday March 22, 2014 Randy Seaver from Genea-Musings posted Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- How Many Surnames in Your Database. Seigfreid is one of the surnames that I have been researching; it is my maiden name.  I have always known that the "ei" is sometimes "ie" but I didn't know about all of the Siegfried history in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Northampton in Northampton County use to be Siegfried at one time because of the Siegfried family that settled there. In the last month I have found a lot of information about the Siegfried family thanks to some new friends I have met along the way. One of the most helpful has been Leon Borst.  Through him I have found a Siegfried cemetery, Siegfried's Dale, and Siegfried.  The more I research the more interested...ok infatuated with Siegfried.
