Saturday Genealogy Fun On Monday!

I'm finally getting around to doing this.

On Saturday March 22, 2014 Randy Seaver from Genea-Musings posted Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- How Many Surnames in Your Database.

Randy's mission:

1)  Go into your Genealogy Management Program (GMP; either software on your computer, or an online family tree) and figure out how to Count how many surnames you have in your family tree database.

2)  Tell us which GMP you're using and how you did this task.

3)  Tell us how many surnames are in your database and, if possible, which Surname has the most entries.  If this excites you, tell us which surnames are in the top 5!  Or 10!!  Or 20!!!

4)  Write about it in your own blog post, in a comment to this blog post, in a status or comment on Facebook, or in Google Plus Stream post.

This is one of my favorites; I like looking at statistics about my database.  I use Legacy 8 and there is a new button that says statistics and gives you a lot of great information about your database.

Clicking on the Statistics Report brings up the Family File Statistics window:

This tells me:

  1. total number of individuals is 2876
  2. total number of unique surnames is 608
  3. top 10 most popular surnames are:
    1. Siegfried -- 195
    2. Masteller -- 164
    3. Unknown -- 87
    4. Kinley -- 82
    5. Hunter -- 70
    6. Thomas -- 68
    7. Everitt -- 67
    8. Wenner -- 66
    9. Savage -- 47
    10. Hartman -- 43
   4.  total number of unique given names is 1794
   5.  top 10 most popular given names are:

    1. Elizabeth -- 45
    2. John -- 42
    3. Unknown -- 41
    4. Catherine --36
    5. Daniel -- 32
    6. Mary -- 30
    7. Henry -- 29
    8. Sarah -- 27
    9. Jacob -- 26
    10. William -- 25
I really thought there were more people in my database than that.  As you can see I have a LONG ways to go!

NOTE:
If you have been following blog you know I have fallen off the wagon with 52 posts in 52 weeks.  I will update with a new post shortly.  I am just going to pick up where I left off and will hopefully catch up with an extra post some weeks.

Happy Searching!!

Stitching Update…Lots of pics

LHN Family Sampler (excuse my crooked house…not sure why it looks like that) American Flag Quilt Sampler by Rosewood Manor.  I love stitching on this; I did however run out of the Brethren Blue.  I decided to put this down for a little while and have picked up the family sampler again. A close up! HAED Natures Mourning.  I have not worked on this in a while.  I plan to stitch on LHN Family Sampler until Friday and then work on this next. Last but not least is a little freebie that I did before Christmas.

25 things about me

Donna had this posted on her blog and I thought I would play along. So here are 25 things about me. I have the most wonderful husband in the whole world. He is very supportive and does so much for me. I LOVE him very very much. My son is the best surprise I ever got. He was not planned but he is the BEST thing ever. I have two wonderful dogs. Gunner is a beagle and Meg is a chocolate lab. I love to take pictures. I love my camera and what I see through it. I love tea, hot or iced, it does not matter! Eeyore is my favorite character. I love to cross stitch and scrapbook. My mom is my best friend..I tell her everything and I talk to her at least once a day (sometimes more). My dh and I were married in Florida on the beach...it was one of the best days of my life. On May 10th we will be married for 5 years but we have been together for 10 +/- a few. I just watched the movie Happy Gilmore and I kinda liked it. I love the Anne of Green Gables series and I am dying to go to Prince Edw

I'm back!!

Yes, I am back from blogging vacation. First, we had a wonderful Christmas is sunny Florida with Jason's family. I really did not want to come home...it was so nice and warm! I have LOTS of pics to go through...they are still on my camera (totally unlike me if you know me at all)!! New Year's Eve was a little different this year. Normally we have a party with friends at our house and then on New Year's Day we go to my grandparents for lunch with family. This year on New Year's Eve we had dinner at our house with some GREAT friends and then we headed out to a resturant that another friend works at. The resturant is closing and being their last night she had to work. It was so much fun...I had way too much to drink and paid heavily for it!! We did not have our traditional dinner on New Year's Day since we had it a few days earlier while my uncle was in from California. All in all we had a wonderful time this Holiday season!! Tomorrow my dad goes into surgery to remo
