N is for Newspapers

Not only can you find birth, death, and marriage information in newspapers but you can find articles about your ancestors and their families.

Alvah Rutan's family held a reunion in 1928 {51 years after his death} but I found the article when I was searching a database for his name.

The following article was in the Benton Argus in Benton, Pennsylvania on 20 September 1928.

For easier reading here is what the article says :

Rutan Family Holds Meeting

The descendants of Elder A. R. Rutan and their families met in the grove at Stillwater, Sept 3.  Two birthdays were celebrated: Enos A. Hartman, aged 76, and David Wenner, aged 81.

It was decided to make this reunion an annual affair.  As the children of A. R. and Abigail Smith Rutan were all girls there are no descendants having the family name.  There are two girls still living and were in attendance at this reunion, Mrs. R. W. Lemons and Mrs. David Wenner.

Those in attendance were: Bendertown-- Mr. and Mrs. David Wenner, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wenner, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Wenner, Fred, Ivan and Vernadean Wenner; Benton, R. D.--Mrs. R. W. Lemons, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Keller, Helen, Jospehine, and Louise Keller; Berwick--Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Hartman, Gottlieb Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. David Hartman, Anna and Alice Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. Hanford Hartman, Thomas Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. J. Clyde Watts, Stanley and Irene Watts, Joseph Hartman; Bloomsburg--Gottleib Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. Ward VanDine, Kenneth and Kermit VanDine, Mary and Marie VanDine; Stillwater--Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McMichael, Mrs. Edith M. Dodson, Jay, Hazel, Grace, Dorothy and John McMichael.

The image below shows the reunion event in Alvah's Individual Information window in his list of events.

The image below is the Reunion event; in the Notes tab I have transcribed the article.  Also, the article is attached to the event.

Note : I do all of my transcribing in Evernote because I can see more of the screen and then I copy and paste from Evernote to Legacy.

Do you look in newspapers for information about your ancestors??

See you tomorrow for letter O.

OneNote | A Look Inside

I still have a few more notes to move over from Evernote but I am loving OneNote.  I keep to do lists, goals, projects, ideas, genealogy research and so much more in OneNote.  So what does my setup look like?  Lets take a look! {I usually use OneNote 2016 but I have tried the Windows 10 app and it works just as good.} The first screen shot below is OneNote 2016 and the second is from the Windows 10 app.  My first notebook is my task management notebook.  In this notebook I have my Inbox, which is my default section for incoming stuff, calendar and lists.  {Emails that I have sent to OneNote and screen clips go in my Inbox section.} The next notebook is for my blog, and then the Genealogy notebook is for research notes, then I have the GBT notebook which I use for notes and reminders for GeneaBloggersTribe, the Reference notebook is for things that don't belong in one of the other notebooks,  and the last notebook is the Archive.
