H is for Hunter


Hunter is not only my mother's maiden name but also the name of my son.  He was going to be named Noah until about a week before I had him.  Something mad me want a family name; something that had meaning.  

 Some information on the Hunter surname : Recorded as Huntar, Hunter, and the female Huntress and Huntriss, this ancient surname is of Anglo-Scottish origins. The derivation is from the Olde English pre 7th Century word "hunta", from "huntian", meaning to hunt, with the agent suffix "-er", meaning one who does or works with.   One of the earliest settlers in the New World was Francis Hunter who sailed from the port of London aboard the ship "Thomas and John" bound for Virginia, in June 1635.

In my Legacy database there are currently 87 people with the Hunter Surname.  I am currently at a brick wall with my 4th great grandfather Peter C. Hunter (b. abt. 1785 in Luzerne, Luzerne county, Pennsylvania and d. abt. 1841 in Jackson Township, Luzerne county, Pennsylvania).

From the statistics report in Legacy (Reports tab and then Statistics Report) I was able to find out how many Hunter's are in my database {see image below.}


Legacy will also create a graph showing your top 10 most popular surnames. {I added the numbers and Hunter}.

2012 Hunter family reunion :

We had each family pick a color and everyone in that family wore the color to help us figure out who belonged to who.  This is a good representation of our Hunter family but there were quite a few missing.
Hunter with my niece, Emily, and nephew, Owen.  The oldest to the youngest of the great grandchildren.  {Owen is also named after the Hunter's; his middle name is William which is his great grandfather's name.}

5 Tips to Break Down Your Brick Wall

Eventually we all hit a brick wall.  My first brick wall was with Joseph Thomas {my husband's 3rd great grandfather} I spent months searching.  Brick walls can last weeks to months to years.  Below are some quick tips to help you break through that brick wall. Goodbye Evernote, Hello OneNote

What?  I'm leaving Evernote behind! As most of you know I have been a huge Evernote supporter from the beginning and I have had a paid membership from the beginning {until October 1st}.    There has been a lot of talk about Evernote not lasting much longer because they have been making a lot of changes and letting people go.   That got me thinking about what I would do if they did cease to exist.   I started looking at all of my options and the best option, for me, is OneNote.   I already have it on my computer and it is free.   I can use OneNote on my desktop, laptop, phone, and table all for free.   I can still use tags {a bit different than what I am use to but it works and I am finding that I really don't need that many tags}.   I can still search for things and actually find what I am looking for.   I can still clip stuff from the web using the OneNote clipper.   I'm currently working on moving notes from Evernote t...
