Cemetery Hopping!

It is now warm enough here in PA to go and check out a few cemeteries!

I'm hopeful that one particular headstone will help with some conflicting dates. It looks like I am going to journey to Oakdale Cemetery in Hunlock Creek in Luzerne County, PA.

There is a major discrepancy with the birth year and death year for Florence Lewis Myers Hunter. She was first married to Orel Myers and then George Washington Hunter. Florence and Orel had at least 7 children and Florence and George Washington Hunter had one son, Willard Milton Hunter (my great-grandfather). Florence is buried with Orel and not George...I wonder why?? More mysteries to solve! Stay tuned to see what I find.

The Great Genealogy Shape Up of 2018!

For most of 2017, I spent my genealogy time cleaning up my database in Legacy Family Tree. I'm still working on cleaning up messes from when I first started my family tree. For 2018, I plan to continue cleaning up my database. I would also like to finish adding all Find A Grave information to my database as well. Find A Grave is a great place to find leads to research. Legacy makes it very easy to find everyone in your database who do not have Find A Grave memorials. Click the drop-down arrow on the Find A Grave icon and it gives you the following options: I selected create a list of people without a Find A Grave Memorial and I got a nice LONG list of people. From this list, I have been able to find more ancestors to research and add to my database. Elizabeth Jane Savage Thomas

Elizabeth Jane Savage is my husband's 3rd great grandmother. She was born in Columbia County, Pennsylvania on 1 May 1821 to Henry and Elizabeth (Frantz) Savage. Elizabeth married Joseph Thomas (#2 of 52) on 19 June 1854 and they had the following children: Daniel W. Thomas John W. Thomas Joshua Eugene Thomas Parvin Oscar Thomas Ella G. Thomas William James Thomas Anna E. Thomas When Joseph was killed in April of 1865 in the Civil War Elizabeth continued to take care of their children. She did not remarry. She remained in Fishing Creek Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania where I found them in the 1860 Census. From the List of Pensioners I found that in 1883 Elizabeth was getting $8.00 a month to care for her family. Elizabeth died in April of 1890 and she is buried in Dodson Cemetery in Huntington Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania with other members of her husbands family. I don't know anyt...
