A Research Plan -- How and do I really need one??

As I've been working on the history of my family I have been hearing/reading a lot about research plans.  Do I really need to use one??I've been googling trying to find out more.  I use  Evernote  as my other brain for the things I don't want to forget but know that I will.  I've been trying to come up with a template for Evernote to help with my research.  I think I've finally done it. The first part of the above Research Plan includes some background information about her and her parents.  Then there is a place for birth, marriage, death and burial information.  In red you will see what I don't have.  One of the great things about Evernote is that I can link to other notes and then when I click on the note link it will take me to the linked note.  (note links are green and links to websites are blue). In the next part, above, you will see a place for information on Icie's children and below that census information.  I tr...

The Great Search

Family Search has added images of Wills to their Columbia County Pennsylvania records.  It does take some time to get through them since they are not searchable but persistence pays off.  I was able to locate the will for James Everitt.  James had a daughter named Sarah M. L. Everitt who married John Welsh.  (Sarah and John are my husband Jason's 3rd great grandparents).  I was having a hard time connecting Sarah to her parents.  I thought they were James and Mary Everitt but I did not have any concrete evidence. Once I found out about the wills being online I took a chance and looked for James' will and there it was! In his will he states that his wife, Mary, may have whatever she wants to allow her a comfortable living as long as she remains his widow.  His daughter Elizabeth (wife of Henry Delong) gets $250.00.  His son Asa gets $250.00.  He leaves to the heirs of his daughter Susan (wife of John Auten) he leaves Casper Newton...
I've been scrapbooking like crazy for the last few days.  I sold most of my paper scrapping stuff and have been digital scrapbooking.  I enjoy digital scrapbooking so much more!  (It's also less messy!) I started by joining the  Daily Digi  a few months ago.  For a while I was just collecting digi files but then I figured what the heck and dove right in. Burial Search

Dodson Cemetery, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania On Friday when we picked Hunter up from school we went in search of the Dodson Cemetery in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.  Earlier on Friday I located where Elizabeth Jane (Savage) Thomas was buried.  I had been looking for her for quite some time.  I was searching in Columbia County and then on Friday I thought what if she was buried in Luzerne County for some reason.  I searched on Find A Grave in Luzerne County and low and behold there she was.  I was in shock.  I could not believe that after months of searching I finally found where she was.  I quickly did a search for Dodson Cemetery on Google Maps.  I showed it to Jason and he punched it into the GPS.  I was so happy when we got  there and found it! Elizabeth J Thomas' headstone in Dodson Cemetery. My number one lesson that I have learned so far on this journey into genealogy is that if you don't find it the first tim...

Teenage Bullying

I NEVER thought I was going to have to deal with this.  Hunter is going through a really tough time right now.  I feel really bad for him and guilty at the same time.  I wish kids would think about what they are saying and or doing to others and think how they would feel it was being done to them!  I am very grateful that he has the friends he does because they are the reason I know what has been going on.  He didn't want to tell anyone because he did not want to bother them.  I feel like I have let him down somehow.  I'm hoping tomorrow will be the start to a better week for him!!  HUNTER I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

EVERNOTE

EVERNOTE I have been using this for a while now and I often wonder how I lived without it! Now my email inbox does not stay full, I simply email anything important to my Evernote account and delete the rest. Then I go to Evernote and find the notes and tag and move them to the correct notebook. It is soooo easy to find things that you put in Evernote by using tags and searching. I use 7 notebooks to keep me organized. Everything goes into my inbox and from there I tag and move the notes to other notebooks. My other note books are To Do, Shannon Thomas Photography, Personal/Family, Cross Stitch, Reference and Share. The To Do notebook should be self explanatory. In this notebook I use the check boxes in my notes. I have a note for every month and I just add to it when things come up. The Shannon Thomas Photography is used for my photography business. I keep all emails and any other information in here until they are no longer needed and then they get moved to the Refrence noteboo...
