Using Evernote for my planner

In my last post, I mentioned how I am using Evernote as my planner; a few of you have had some questions so here I am.

I started using Evernote the week of December 23rd.  I was looking for a new planner for 2017 and I was not liking anything that I was finding.  I keep lists of all sorts of things in Evernote so it only made sense to try and find a way to use Evernote for my planner.  I did a little bit of research and found these templates for 2017.  With a little adjusting, I was able to make the weekly template work for me.

I first created a folder called Day Planner {I put the folder in my Inbox stack because I spend the most time here}.

!Inbox -- default notebook.  Anything coming into Evernote goes here to be sorted and dealt with {It is piling up today}. Ideally, this is emptied every day but for me, it is more like a few times a week.

!TO DO -- This is the notebook that holds some of those lists.  My genealogy to do list, my blog to do list and my brainstorming list live here along with some notes that I am currently working on don't want to get buried in all the other notes.

Day Planner -- This is where my weekly pages are, my master cleaning to do list, my daily routine reminder note, and a list of my current projects.

IFTT Feedly -- In Feedly anytime I save something for later it goes to this notebook.

The image to the right is what is currently in my Day Planner notebook.

  1. Current week
  2. Next week
  3. Master cleaning to do list {This list includes daily, weekly, and zone cleaning lists.  I do not stick to these lists they are just used as reminders.}
  4. Daily routine note {This is a breakdown of what my ideal day would look like.  My days never go like this but I am trying to get more organized and I am trying to watch where and how I am spending my time.}
  5. Online Storage {This is a new list.  I am moving things around in Dropbox and Google Drive and I needed a way to keep me organized.  This is a temporary list and will be deleted once I am done with my project.}
  6. Projects {This list is a list of projects that I want to do with notes and todos ready to go so when I get started I have everything all together.}
  7. This was my first week using this system {this note and the one below it will be archived in my archive notebook.  I think I have decided to only keep the last two weeks in here to keep this notebook from getting too cluttered.}
  8. The second week
  9. The third week
  10. Last week
Note how the titles of my notes are done in a specific way.  All of the notes except for my current week and next week have an x in front of the note name.  Using the x keeps my notes in order...the order that I want them.

Below you will see my current week. {well part of it anyway.}

As things happen this week I am able to add them to each day.  I check off any tasks that I have completed.

I'm still using a planner for my monthly calendar, goals, and some other miscellaneous stuff. Eventually, all of this may end up in Evernote.

What do you use Evernote for?

Stitching Update…Lots of pics

  LHN Family Sampler (excuse my crooked house…not sure why it looks like that) American Flag Quilt Sampler by Rosewood Manor.  I love stitching on this; I did however run out of the Brethren Blue.  I decided to put this down for a little while and have picked up the family sampler again. A close up! HAED Natures Mourning.  I have not worked on this in a while.  I plan to stitch on LHN Family Sampler until Friday and then work on this next. Last but not least is a little freebie that I did before Christmas.

US Marine Casualty Cards

Earlier this week I got my copy of Family Tree Magazine and I was reading an article that led me to  World War II History Network  and from there I found a link to an article about the United States Marine Corp making their casualty cards searchable.  You can find the database at  Casualty Cards Database. Fred Thomas, my husbands great uncle, was in WWII and in the Marines.  I searched the database and found : On the first page it states :  While the cards for World War II through Korea are not classified, however, they can often be very graphic.    Therefore, to maintain the dignity and honor of the Marines, the individual cards will only be released, upon request, on a case by case basis.    To request a card, please send an email to   history.division@usmc.mil   or a request in writting to: United States Marine Corps History Division Attn: Reference Branch 3078 Upshur Avenue Quantico, Virginia 22134 .    I immediately sent an email {about 12:30 am because
